Foreword / Wstęp
I have chosen this beer pretty much randomly. I didn't care about any fancy descriptions, prizes won or recommendations. I simply went to the shop with a plan to treat myself with some nice beer, most preferably one that I never had before. After quick eenie-meenie-minie-moe I have grabbed a bottle of dark Ale with a proud name 'Oxford Gold' brewed by Brakespear Brewing in Witney, Oxfordshire. Considering label and cap design I was expecting something lightly honey tasted like my beloved Honey Dew by Fuller's.

First Impression / Pierwsze wrażenia
First thing that brought my attention after getting the bottle open was really nice bottle cap. For a second I wanted to keep it and start collecting them, but on the second thought I had no idea what would I do with this garbage after a while
Oxford Gold seems to be light, very clear brew with nice carmine tint (it's much darker than lager beers). The foam is very fine and thick but it doesn't rise quickly when pouring the beer. The situation was still under control when I poured it vertically down to my mug.

Po otworzeniu butelki pierwsze co rzuciło mi się w oczy to naprawde ładny kapsel. Zastanawiałem się nawet czy nie zostawić sobie go gdzieś i nie zacząć ich zbierać, tylko co ja potem bym z tymi smieciami zrobił.
Oxford Gold jest bardzo klarownym piwem o dość jasnym kolorze (ciemniejszym od lagerów i pilsnerów, nie jest to typowe jasne piwo), który ma zabarwienie delikatnie karminowe. Pianka jest dość drobna i gęsta ale nie powstaje jej zbyt dużo przy nalewaniu. Dało się opanować sytuacje nawet przy nalewaniu prosto z góry.
Scent / Zapach
There is not so much scent coming out of the bottle, but you definitely can smell the barley and lightly sweet, flowery notes. When poured there's more flowery notes and there's a bit of a sour, citrus kind of smell. I have to admit, it doesn't smell bad at all!

Piwo z butelki pachnie bardzo delikatnie. Wydobywa sie z niej lekki słodkawy, jęczmienny zapach z wyraźną nutą kwiatową. Po nalaniu do kufla zapach się zdecydowanie wzmaga i do wyraźnych nut kwiatowych dochodzi do tego kwaśnawy, cytusowy zapach. Musze przyznać, że pachnie naprawde nieźle!
Taste / Smak
Taste Bouqet is quite rich and it nicely fades from crisp barley malt taste through very clear and fresh blend of barley and hops - typical for Ales, finally to slightly bitter but a bit sweet taste of hops which stays deep on your tongue. After having few sips more you get more of flower notes and definitely a grapefruit tone. However it seems like it's not main part of a grapefruit which you usually eat but it's these white bitter bits that separate the pulp inside (i have no idea how it's called). Quite bittery and citric, not bad at all. Unfortunatelly further you go down the bottle it seems to loose it's fullness of taste and it seems like there just the first bite of taste and bitter aftertaste and quite watery and plain middle.

Bukiet smakowy jest dość bogaty i ładnie przechodzi od delikatnego jęczmiennego smaku do bardzo świeżego i lekkiego posmaku typowego dla Ale. Pod koniec pojawia się głeboko w języku bardziej goryczkowy, chmielowy ale słodkawy posmak. Po dłuższym piciu coraz bardziej wyczuwalne są nuty kwiatowe oraz bardzo wyraźny smak grejpfruta. Co ciekawe, nie jest to posmak owocu tylko tych takich białych kawałków ze środka grejpfruta, które oddzielają miąższ (nie mam pojęcia jak się to nazywa). Gorzkawe (ale smaczne) i cytusowe. Niestety to tylko dlatego, że do smaku przyzwyczjają się kubki smakowe. Ogólnie z czasem piwo traci na pełni swojego smaku. Potem odczuwalny jest tylko pierwszy smak i koncowy posmak i wodnista przerwa w środku.
Summary / Podsumowanie
It's not a bad beer but unfortunatelly it leaves you not fully satisfied. It definitely has got a potential, but it seems like you have to drink it with really big gulps to push it's full taste out. And even if you do that besides nice notes of flowers and nice bittery citric taste, there's a bit of a bitter taste, you just don't expect there. Otherwise it seems a bit watery.
I bet that this is one of those beers which if you would drink in some local pub in Witney, Oxfordshire straight from the keg it would simply blast you away with it's magnificent taste, and one that if you want to get from a shop shelf it tastes like it but simply looses all of it's magic.
I don't regret buying Brakespear Oxford Gold. It didn't ruin my evening but I doubt I will remember it at all.

Brakespear Oxford Gold jest to ogólnie niezłe piwo ale niestety zostawia troche niedosyt. Wydaje się jakby trzeba było je pić naprawde sporymi łykami, żeby wydobyć z niego pełnię smaku. Wtedy też oprócz nut kwiatowych i posmak skórek owoców pojawia się smak piwa typu Bitter. Normalnie jest ono troche rozwodnione.
Założę się, że jest to jedno z tych piw, które pite z beczki w pubie znajdującym się w okolicy miejsca gdzie zostało uważone smakuje naprawde niesamowicie dobrze, a gdy się kupi wersję sklepową czuć, że jest to to samo piwo jednak swojej magii ma znacznie, znacznie mniej.
Nie żałuję, że je kupiłem i nie popsuło mi wieczoru ale wątpię czy zapadnie mi specjalnie w pamięć.
